What: Nothing can slow down Suzanne Lindley - not even the grim diagnosis she received when her cancer spread to the liver. When cancer spreads to the liver, HOPE is not a word patients usually hear. Lindley, a 10-year cancer survivor, advocate and founder of the nonprofit support group YES! Beat Liver Tumors, is constantly striving to build support and instill HOPE in patients who have received this diagnosis. As part of a national Liver Seminar series, YES! is partnering with physicians at The George Washington University Hospital to host a special seminar on Wednesday, May 18, 2011. The event will feature Drs. Showkat Bashir, Paul Lin, Harvey I. Katzen and Shawn Sarin who will discuss available treatment options.
Physicians at The George Washington University Hospital are using conventional, surgery and chemotherapy, as well as emerging therapies to treat liver tumors, including Selective Internal Radiation Therapy (SIRT) which is proven to help shrink liver tumors and improve overall patient survival and quality of life. The Liver Seminar series, taking place at medical centers across the country, is designed to provide patients and caregivers the opportunity to hear Lindley's inspiring story that there is hope despite the devastating diagnosis. When: Wednesday, May 18 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Where: Lower Level GWU Auditorium George Washington University Hospital 900 23rd Street Northwest Washington, D.C., 20037 Who: In advance of the Liver Seminar, interventional radiologist Dr. Shawn Sarin is available for interviews to talk about the importance of raising awareness of liver cancers and treatments.
