YES! Beat Liver Tumors 877-937-7478
© YES http://www.beatlivertumors.org Survivors and medical professionals rallied on Capitol Hill February 5th – 8th at The Hay Adams in Washington, DC for the 1st Annual Congressional Briefing. The event began with a Welcome Dinner at The Old Ebbitt Grill and introduction by Suzanne Lindley. An intense, yet productive, empowering – and at times humorous, training took place all day Sunday, February 5th under the guidance of Advocacy and Action’s, Jim Wetekam. Statistical details about the incidence of cancers of the liver, surveillance methods, treatment options, and research data and funding were the key focus. Until now, most have believed that liver tumors indicate that a patient will soon die. Fortunately, early detection and cutting-edge new treatments are rapidly changing this short-term diagnosis for thousands of cancer patients. Unfortunately, many cancer patients, caregivers, and even physicians remain unaware and uneducated about these treatment options. The YES mission of this briefing was to ensure that our policy makers became aware of these issues. On Monday, advocates arrived at the Capitol Hill Club for breakfast which was provided by AMIC. Last minute details were discussed by Jim Wetekam. A.J. Ali shared a powerful message of his emotional tie to cancers of the liver; Eric Hoffman of Powell Tate gave a very inspirational and empowering send-off to all advocates. Armed with leave behinds, enthusiasm, and an important mission; patients, caregivers, and professionals set out for 110 individual meetings with their Representatives and Senators. We then reunited for The Congressional Briefing that was held at Noon at the Capitol Visitor’s Center.
